CST300 Module 4

Part 1: My educational goals at the moment pretty much include just finishing my 4-year computer science degree. Otherwise, any other education goals I have or may have relies on my career's current status. Part 2: At the moment my career goals lie in getting an internship position at a software development company in order to further my skills in the industry and to get on-the-job experience. Part 3: After reviewing the questions on the ETS test, I feel as though in 18 months I should get at least the upper 50th percentile. I haven't had much training in many of the topics that computer science focuses on such as the big O and even hash maps -- anything I do know was mainly self-taught. And so once I do get some sort of formal training in the area, I believe that I will do reasonably well on the exam.  Part 4: This week was focused on the ethical claims that can be used alongside the previously covered ethical frameworks. The 5 types of claims are fact, policy, value, cause,...

CST300 Module 3

Part 1: The main area I know I need to improve in for studying is time management. One of the tips that the supplied study tips source runs over is to learn to prioritize different tasks throughout the day so that important tasks are done first, or that all high-priority tasks eventually get completed during the day. I plan to follow this tip by first making a list of all the tasks that I see myself having throughout any specific day and then ranking them based on how important I feel they are. Beyond this, I will also try to list the time I believe it would take to finish them so that I could accurately plan out my day with time slots for each task that are generally adequate for any task. Part 2: Ethics is a concept of right and wrong. There are multiple ethical frameworks that can be applied to different ethical situations or ideas which reflect how that situation is being looked at critically and therefore how the decision on right and wrong is made. An example of a framework ...

CST300 Module 2

The Future is Faster than you think Summary: The core concept in this presentation is that the development of new technology is exponentially accelerating. Moore's law was referenced, which states that the number of transistors on an IC would generally double every 2 years, but the rate of technological advancement is more than doubling, its accelerating its acceleration. Trends in Computing and Software Development Summary: Overall the trends in computing and software development show that technology will continue to become more accessible and cloud based -- which in general would improve its reliability and accessibility to a larger group of people. Introduction to Project Management Summary: Overall, a project manager takes on the responsibility to keep a project on task, get it completed by the end date, and make sure that all the smaller pieces in it -- including employees -- are working together nicely. The skill sets of project managers is a complex set of interpersonal and...

CST300 Module 1

This week was very focused on the introductory aspects of a course such as the group assignment getting teams used to scheduling effective meetings and students beginning their personal introduction assignments such as creating this first blogger post. It will definitely take some time to swap over to using the APA referencing style because I've been using MLA for my entire academic career -- and otherwise I'm excited to see what the rest of this course has to offer as well as what future courses have.
