CST300 Module 4
Part 1: My educational goals at the moment pretty much include just finishing my 4-year computer science degree. Otherwise, any other education goals I have or may have relies on my career's current status.
Part 2: At the moment my career goals lie in getting an internship position at a software development company in order to further my skills in the industry and to get on-the-job experience.
Part 3: After reviewing the questions on the ETS test, I feel as though in 18 months I should get at least the upper 50th percentile. I haven't had much training in many of the topics that computer science focuses on such as the big O and even hash maps -- anything I do know was mainly self-taught. And so once I do get some sort of formal training in the area, I believe that I will do reasonably well on the exam.
Part 4: This week was focused on the ethical claims that can be used alongside the previously covered ethical frameworks. The 5 types of claims are fact, policy, value, cause, and definition. Each type has its own specific criteria for defending it -- for example, a claim of fact must be backed up with factual evidence and must address any ambiguous or controversial terms. Beyond this, another topic covered this week was setting good goals for our futures, specifically with education and career goals. Overall I don't have very diverse or focused goals for either option, but both are a work in progress.
I feel the exact same way when it comes to the test I wish I had more experience towards honing my skills when it comes to literacy of programming and I hope I do well once I take it.
ReplyDeleteHi Chris,
ReplyDeleteI think completing your 4-year degree is a great goal to have as that is the initial hurdle at many companies. Your Career Goal is also a great goal as an internship is a great place to start to get that initial experience. They also have entry-level roles at companies that might be a good fit because they expect a period of training and learning to be taking place. Good Luck!
Hi Chris,
ReplyDeleteI have similar educational goals to you – completing a four-year degree is my main plan at the moment. Outside of formal education, I would recommend looking into technologies that interest you, and seeing if you can practice with them on your own. It is always useful to learn additional skills; they might prove useful in the future, especially in the technology sphere.
Hey Chris,
ReplyDeleteI agree that the majority of the educational goals we have at the moment are reliant on our completion of this CS Online program to earn our Computer Science degrees. I think it will not only help to achieve this degree, but we will also be pushed to learn from each other throughout this experience. I am also looking to earn an internship as a software developer, hoping to gain on-the-job experience to learn from and add to my resume, in order to ultimately gain a full-time career in the industry.
