CST300 Module 2

The Future is Faster than you think Summary:

The core concept in this presentation is that the development of new technology is exponentially accelerating. Moore's law was referenced, which states that the number of transistors on an IC would generally double every 2 years, but the rate of technological advancement is more than doubling, its accelerating its acceleration.

Trends in Computing and Software Development Summary:

Overall the trends in computing and software development show that technology will continue to become more accessible and cloud based -- which in general would improve its reliability and accessibility to a larger group of people.

Introduction to Project Management Summary:

Overall, a project manager takes on the responsibility to keep a project on task, get it completed by the end date, and make sure that all the smaller pieces in it -- including employees -- are working together nicely. The skill sets of project managers is a complex set of interpersonal and technical skills that allows them to not only understand the details of a project well but to also be able to communicate those portions of it to both technicians and management officials.

Part 1: 3 Top things I'm good at: I am pretty good at organization when it comes to notes and assignments for classes -- I switched to an entirely digital approach during my first 2 years of college and so I use organized folders to keep track of everything. I'm also pretty good at the SQ3R method when reading text as I've gotten used to accidentally reading a page but never actually absorbing any information, and so it always felt like I hadn't read anything at all -- and so I've worked on all the techniques in order to make sure I was always actively reading rather than just wasting time. A third item I feel I do well at is to answer easy questions first -- from my previous STEM courses, I've learned that there will always be a couple questions that I just can't answer or just have a much harder time on, I've found that doing the questions I find easy first allows me to complete the majority of the quiz quickly, allowing for more time to focus on each of the more difficult questions. The top 3 parts that I feel I need to work more on would first be accurately keeping a schedule of what I plan to study or do at any certain point, I first find it hard to make a schedule in the first place because most of my daily actions revolve around no prior decision making -- and then even with a schedule I find it hard to stick to it because I'm easily distracted. Another portion I find difficult is taking notes or more rather, taking effective notes. I've always found the action of taking notes as more of a chore for a large majority of my school work due to those classes having a much lower level of difficulty -- but that habit has come with me to more difficult courses which aren't as forgiving when notes aren't taken. A last bit I know I must work on would be to preparing outlines for essays -- once again I had previously always found that outlines were a chore, and my English courses mainly having timed essay portions of the class didn't help. And so I find myself lost quite a lot whenever writing large scale essays.

Part 3: Projects are sets of work that have an end goal such as designing a car and creating a proof of concept, they can fail for any number of reasons such as lack of financial managing or lack of time management. These sort of issues are managed by the project manager, and it's their job to keep the whole project moving on task. Overall a project can be broken up into many small sub projects that each have their own deliverable that eventually results in the end deliverable for the entire project -- and a Gantt chart can be used to keep track of the time frame that a project is expected to run on.

Part 4: Project 1 -- Like a Camera: This project consisted of a website that focused on trying to teach the user the basics of in-depth photography, specifically through teaching concepts like aperture, exposure, and ISO. Overall the presentation was done very well, the concept and the way it was presented kept me engaged the whole time and his problem solving solution towards being able to show how settings like ISO affect images in real time was impressive. Otherwise, the presentation was also very professional in terms of its visual and sound quality.

Project 2 -- PetRecs: This project was another website, it focused on giving users the ability to store and share important pet documents such as vaccination records. Overall the presentation was also extremely professional and engaging -- the tutorial of the website was also extremely informative and went over all the functions of the website in an understandable manner. Out of all the websites function, the only one I'd recommend improvement in is the ability for users who have had pets shared to them to even start the process of editing the pets profile. In the presentation, someone trying to edit the info of another's pet shows an error, although a solution for this might just be to not show the edit button to people who don't own that specific pet.

Project 3 -- StuffRide: This project was a webapp / mobile app that allowed people to hire others to deliver large items between a sellers location and the buyers location. The presentation itself was less professional than seen in the previous two through its use if gifs and other humorous elements. Otherwise the introduction to the apps functions was coherent and complete.

Part 5: This week the main task was to finish the first draft of out Industry Analysis Papers and submit them so that 2 of our team members could review it. Luckily our team has 5 members and so selecting reviewers was quite easy -- everyone has 2 papers to review and their paper will be reviewed by 2 others. My paper mainly covered the technology that Tesla is developing for their autonomous function on their vehicles -- the main difficulty was finding a reliable source of their founding history especially due to Tesla removing the About Us page from their website which covered their founding history in exchange for a more general About Us section that didn't mention their founding engineers.
